Ontario issued a new stay-at-home order as Covid-19 numbers climbed — with modelling the Premier said would have Ontarians “falling out of their chairs,” and hospitals facing overrun by February without action.
The new measures
- Outdoor gatherings capped at five people, limited exceptions
- Masks required indoors at open businesses; recommended outdoors within two metres
- Non-essential retail restricted to 7am–8pm (food stores, pharmacies, gas and takeout exempt)
- Non-essential construction further restricted
The order permitted leaving home only for essentials — groceries, exercise, essential work.
