Since 1995, Canada has officially recognized February as Black History Month — honouring people of African descent as an integral part of shaping the Canada we know.
“Going forward, guided by the past”
This year’s theme, “Canadians of African Descent: Going forward, guided by the past,” draws on the United Nations’ International Decade for People of African Descent.
Events around Toronto
We invite everyone to join the many events held across Toronto for the occasion — music and film alike, including “King Alpha’s Song in A Strange Land: the Roots and Routes of Canadian Reggae,” “Rapsody” and “Baaba Maal: Duniya Salaam.”
